Lazio to land Amoruso

Lazio have reportedly agreed a fee with Italian minnows Reggina for veteran striker Nicola Amoruso.

The 32-year-old was looking for a fresh challenge after being embroiled in another relegation battle and a switch to the capital seems to be on the horizon.

Reports in Italy this morning claim that the southern side have accepted a fee of £2.5m for the striker who was also being linked with Sampdoria.

Amoruso, the brother in law of Juventus captain Alex Del Piero, scored 12 goals in 33 games for the Amaranto this term as they somehow avoided the drop.

Amoruso has been targeted by the Biancocelesti after they opted to not complete the signing of Rolando Bianchi.

The latter, himself a former Reggina marksman, joined Lazio in January on loan after failing to settle in the Premiership with Manchester City.

Lazio were also reportedly interested in Fiorentina young gun Giampaolo Pazzini, but he’s set to remain in Florence.

Cant say I really agree with this aquisition, paying £2.5 million for a 32 year old journeyman striker sounds like madness to me!

Lazio missed out on Giovinco

May 27, 2008 at 12:07 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

The agent of Juventus-owned sensation Sebastian Giovinco has revealed that the club tried to sell his client to Lazio a year ago, only for Biancocelesti President Claudio Lotito to brand the player as “too small”.

Giovinco is widely regarded as one of the best young players in world football at the moment, and it seems he will return to Juventus for next season following a fine year on-loan at Empoli where he scored six goals from 20 Serie A starts.

The diminutive trequartista has been the subject of much transfer speculation over the past few months, as rumours continued to circulate that he may move to Palermo as part of the deal that will see Amauri end up in Turin.

The chances of Giovinco moving to Sicily are now impossible, but in an incredible revelation, the 21-year-old’s agent Andrea D’Amico has stated that Juventus offered the youngster to Lazio last year, only to be rejected by Claudio Lotito.

“Giovinco was offered one year ago to President Lotito, but he replied that the player was too small and so therefore nothing happened,” D’Amico explained.

Giovinco is currently on duty for the Italy Under 21’s, and he has been setting alight the Toulon Tournament in France. The skilful playmaker scored twice in Italy’s 2-0 first group game win over the Ivory Coast, while he provided two brilliant assists in yesterday evening’s 2-0 win over the United States.

Just one thing you can say about Lotito here.  What a CHUMP!!!!!

Lazio eye Marchionni

Lazio are looking to offload Guglielmo Stendardo in a swap deal with Juve winger Marco Marchionni.

Stendardo is due to return to Lazio having completed his six month loan spell at Juventus, however he is almost certain to be immediately sold on as he has fallen out with Coach Delio Rossi.

The Neapolitan defender only made five Serie A appearances during his short stay at Turin. The Bianconeri are keen to keep him though, only they have been put off by Lazio President Claudio Lotito’s astronomical €12m asking price.

Il Messagero says that Lotito is now ready to propose a new solution, offering Stendardo in straight exchange for Juve winger Marco Marchionni.

Marchionni is a highly talented and skilful wideman, however he has barely featured this season due to injury, a curse that has befallen him for most of his career.

Due to his injury proneness, Juve may be willing to accept Lazio’s offer. The Biancocelesti, who are rebuilding after a disastrous season, are also said to be eyeing up Parma-duo Luca Cigarini and Daniele Dessena.

Lazio track Marchisio

Juventus youngster Claudio Marchisio is delighted that Lazio are tracking him and is dreaming of a move to the Eternal City.

The 22-year-old midfielder has spent the season on loan to Empoli where he is adapting to life in the top flight.

But Marchisio seems unlikely to find first-team football in Turin next term and it seems that he is looking elsewhere.

“I have read and heard rumours that the Biancocelesti are interested in me,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.

“The first thing I thought was that if a great club like Lazio are chasing me then I must be playing well.

“Then I was just really proud because I can only be proud to be on the Aquile’s shopping list.

“I know that Delio Rossi is a very prepared Coach tactically and it would be great to play in his side.

“I have had a good season at Empoli and it would be a big step up to play in Rome.”

The start of a new era

The Aquilotti have had one of their worst seasons since the end of the Cragnotti era. They were miserably dumped out of the Champions League at the group stages and they finished mid-table which is poor by Lotito’s high standards.

It has not been a vintage campaign by anymeans and Rossi is looking forward to a new cycle at the Olimpico.

“This team is worthy of a UEFA Cup place. We have not had a good season at all and we have to apologise to our fans,” said Rossi.

“We have to criticise ourselves as last year we were brilliant but this year we are all to blame, including myself.

“Maybe some people are at more fault than others but all of us are to blame.

“We need to restart from next season and put this poor campaign behind us.

“A cycle has ended this year and a new one will begin next season and we need to begin aiming high with no if’s or but’s and this will be our project.”

The Biancocelesti will be hoping to bring in some new faces to the side as they look to freshen up and challenge for European places next term following a disastrous campaign.

Hmm we’ve been linked with a fair number of players over the past few days and going by the quality of some of the players mentioned it looks like Lotito is willing to spend a few of the euros he’s been saving over the past few season.

Pablo Aimar, Bruno Fornaroli (have a look on youtube, he looks class!) and other have been mentioned the last few days, so what could we expect next year? Of course it’s all hearsay at the moment but I for one am quite glad we’re not bargain basement hunting yet again.

What do you think? Leave a comment or drop me an e-mail at sslaziali@gmail.com

Aimar linked with Lazio move

Zaragoza were relegated on the final day of the Spanish season and a number of their players, including the likes of Diego Milito and Sergio Garcia, seem set to move away from La Romareda over the summer rather than follow the team into the Segunda.

Argentine midfielder Aimar, 28, is considered to be among those players likely to depart and his availability has attracted the attention of Italian side Lazio, who are mulling over a bid for the former River Plate and Valencia star.

Zaragoza will request a fee in the region of €8-10million for his services, although Lazio are thought to be hopeful of agreeing an initial season long loan deal with the option to make the deal permanent should Aimar become an integral part of their side.

Aimar holds a Spanish passport and therefore would not take up one of the coveted non-EU spots in Lazio’s squad, and the feeling is that he would be open to a move to Italy should Lazio firm up their interest.

The Biancocelesti are yet to make contact with Zaragoza or the player’s agent, but could be set to do so in the coming days should they decide that Aimar is the right man to inject some more creativity into their midfield.

Valon BehramiValon Behrami’s agent has revealed that the Lazio star, linked to Tottenham and Liverpool, will use the Webster clause to buy-out his contract.

The Switzerland international has decided to move on after three seasons at Stadio Olimpico and he plans to play in the Champions League next season.

His representative Alessandro Beltrami has revealed that the midfielder will play Euro 2008 in his homeland as a free agent before leaving the Biancocelesti.

Behrami’s father recently declared the highly-rated player was on his way to Sevilla, but the agent told us that: “The daddy does not decide for his son, he is not aware of it.

“Behrami will play Euro 2008 as a free player because he will buy-out his contract.

“Do you know what the Webster clause is? Well, he will use it.

“And after that, I can tell you that he has 100 percent chance of leaving Lazio.

“Lazio wanted €12 million (£9 million) for him and we had contacts, but now he will be able to decide where he goes and he wants to play the Champions League.

“We will not contact clubs, believe me, they are going to call us.”

Lotito has faith in Rossi

Lazio President Claudio Lotito has declared that he is keeping faith with under-fire Coach Delio Rossi.

Having delivered a shock third-placed finish in 2006-07, Rossi was expected to cement the Biancocelesti’s newfound status this term.

However, the Aquile were left languishing in the bottom half of the table and won’t play European football next term.

While there have been persistent rumours that Rossi will be replaced, Lotito insists that he is sticking with the struggling tactician, who is under contract until 2009.

“We met in the week just to go over some technical details, not for any other reason,” the capital club’s chief explained.

“It has been confirmed that Rossi will be on the bench for the start of next season.”

Lotito’s next task is to appoint a new sporting director after the much-maligned Walter Sabatini resigned at the end of the season.

He may also have to halt the exodus of his playing staff with Gaby Mudingayi, Goran Pandev and Valon Behrami all touted to leave within the next month.

Cribari named in worst Serie A Team of the year

Goal. com have named Lazio stopper Emilson Sanchez Cribari in their Serie A worst 11. Here’s what they had to say about him:

Lazio conceded a whopping 51 goals in Serie A this season, and much of it was, unsurprisingly, down to their shocking defence. Cribari is excellent in the air, and is a committed player who always gives 100 per cent, but positionally he is quite awful at times. His centre back partnership with Guglielmo Stendardo in the first half of the season resembled that of Jean-Alain Boumsong and Titus Bramble at Newcastle Utd a few years ago, while things hardly improved once Stendardo joined Juventus on loan in January. Cribari is by no means a bad player, but like the rest of the Lazio squad, this was a season to forget.

Im not sure he deserves this dubious honour, but I’m sure he’ll prove the doubters wrong next year!
